Interview: Sarah G
The second in this series of interviews takes us along to Sarah G, an Internet entrepreneur plus a very helpful and friendly character.
Sarah has been a main contributor to the BV Forums and successfully runs a selection of her own websites including Sarah Freelance, a personal blog about her life and her Internet endeavors.
What do you see yourself doing one year from now?
The same (PHP Development) but with less stress. I want to have more time to work on my own projects and need to rely less on clients to bring the money in. I also want to spend less time working and more time relaxing. I wouldn’t mind writing for a magazine either but I can’t see that happening unless I write a book or two first!
What’s your greatest strength?
Problem solving with scripting. If I need to do something, be it web based software or a website function I can usually solve it with scripting. It’s so logical but impresses so many people! I love a challenge!
What’s your greatest weakness?
Saying No to clients. I can’t help being nice and dealing with their issues be it paid for or not. I know they’re taking advantage of me but I’m just not a thick skinned business person to stand up to it.
What’s your most successful project to date?
A Tattoo site that was set up late last year. It’s far exceeded expectations and it’s not even ranking that well in Google yet!
How do you motivate yourself?
I get a buzz out of success. This is my business that I built from scratch with just hard work and luck. Took 5 years for it to be a full success but now it is I just want to build on that even more. That thought just keeps me going. That and the thought of having to go back to working in an office is a right put off!
What do you like to eat / drink while surfing?
Water and lots of it. I try to eat fruit if I do eat, but I always have a large bottle of water next to me. I don’t smoke and coffee is just a social drink to me so I guess I’m not the stereotypical programmer!
What are your 5 favourite websites?
CSS Zen Garden (www.csszengarden.com)
SEOMoz (www.seomoz.org)
Brighton Vibes (forums.brightonvibes.com)
.net (www.netmag.co.uk)
SitePoint (www.sitepoint.com)

Is it all worth it? Definitely.

What’s the next big project?
I wish I could answer that but I actually don’t have an answer. The main reason being that I don’t have a ‘next’ big project as I am already working on the ones that I hope will be big. The first of these is WaterUtopia.com and the second is a set of clear guides that include videos in the hope of being a cut above the others available on the internet.
Actually, having thought about it I do have a mini project coming up where I am trying to produce a viral campaign. This one will be worth watching out for but I can’t say much more at the moment for obvious reasons.
Thank you once again to Sarah for taking the time to answer these questions. Sarah has been a great help in the forums and indeed is really progressing with everything that she puts her hand to. Remember, if you want to be interiewed just hit the contact link.
